According to the Communications Director of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Richard Commey is ban from using the Ghana flag in his upcoming super lightweight 10-rounder fight against Jose Pedraza of Puerto Rico.
Official: The Ghana Boxing Authority has warned former IBF lightweight champ, Richard Oblitey Commey not to use the Ghana flag during his upcoming fight this Saturday against Jose Pedraza of Puerto Rico in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.
Commey was handed an indefinite ban by the Ghanaian boxing governing body in January this year for a charge of gross misconduct as well as blatant refusal to pay a percentage of purse from his fights to the GBA’s development fund.
“Richard Commey is still under suspension and will not be able to fight in the name of Ghana,” affirmed Mohammed Amin Lamptey on Happy FM and reported on Dornus Corner.
Sports journalist Prince Dornu Leiku took the initiative to get the side of Commey’s camp, and this was what Michael Amoo-Bediako had to say;
“The flag will be flying high I promise you that,” Amoo-Bediako told Dornu’s Corner.
“Richard Commey is a Ghanaian, always has been and always will be. His achievements representing Ghana and Ghanaian boxing have been recognised all over the world and he is held in very high regard amongst the boxing fraternity.
“Once again RC will be headlining an event which will be broadcast by ESPN and shown live from coast to coast across United States of America, also Skysports will be broadcasting the event live across the UK, this shows the popularity of Richard that he continues to be a headline act.
“Top Rank Boxing, DiBella Ent and Streetwise Management are proud to be associated with Richard Commey and once again he will show on Saturday night the fighting spirit of being a Ghanaian” Commey’s manager expressed.
Come tomorrow Saturday at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tulsa, Oklahoma in the USA, Ghana’s Richard Commey will begin his new journey at the super lightweight when he put his horns against a former world champion in Jose Pedraza.
Boxing Ghana is collating opinions from boxing people on this matter and will soon post it. Watch the space.
