One of the trio Samir brothers considered to be gifted with boxing genes has made his entrance into the professional ranks of Boxing.

Shakul Samir (an Olympian and 2x commonwealth rep for Ghana), brother of Bastie Samir and Issah Samir, won his first professional fight last night at the Bukom Boxing Arena fighting on the 8-card bout of the GBPL 2 promoted by IMAX Media in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Authority.

Shakul competed in a Super Middleweight contest over 6 rounds against Francis of the Black Panthers Boxing Foundation in Accra.

Shakul Samir represents the Akotoku Boxing Academy, one of the 14 clubs participating in the second season of the League.

The excitement made the crowd frantic with each blast of a landed punch by either boxer.

Round 4 was the most exciting of the 6 as Shakul tested Francis’ pulses in an infighting give and take, that nearly landed both boxers on the ground.

Signs of fatigue set in in round 6 but both boxers managed to fight on till the end.

The decision on the night went in favour of Samed, scoring 59- 55, 60-54, 60-54.

Samir after the bout apologized to Ghanaians for his mistake that cost Ghana a medal shot at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. He asked Ghana to expect great things from him as he’s back in the ring to prove that Samir has never given up!

Boxing fans were very impressed with the match-up.

A fan, who wants to be referred to as Laryea expressed his excitement: “Shakul, we already know him and we know he’s good. Nobody in Ghana can beat him, I am very happy !!”

Shakul promised to return to the ring again very soon.

In the stands were his elder brother Bastie Samir, his Father and a large clan of the Samir group.
