Mr. Samuel Heywood Okine got branded as ‘General One’ following his uncountable and unprecedented involvement in the sports fraternity, reporting and coaching the young to have a backbone on which to thrive.
Sammy Heywood Okine has over the last 30 years been a boxing enthusiast and openly confirmed his love for the game as it has shaped the lives of many he has encountered.
With his indepth knowledge about the sport and its reporting, Mr. Okine has dealt with more information than many would have imagined as he has held positions with numerous outfits.
In a letter dated 9th April, 2021, the Ghana Boxing Authority appointed Mr. Okine as their Substantive Public Relations Officer and portions of it read “The Executive Board has now appointed you as the substantive Public Relations Officer having acted for a considerable period in the absence of the former P.R.O Miss. Gifty Naa Darkua Dodoo”.
With his love for boxing and his constant inclusion in the projecting of the sport, Mr. Okine expressed gratitude and, also assured the board of his unending commitment to ensure the task ahead is achieved with accuracy and adequate information.
In his remarks to ensuring his office works efficiently and effectively, Mr. Okine stated; “It is a task to serve Ghana Boxing, but with God’s guidance and direction as well as the support of the media especially and all stakeholders in the boxing family, I hope to put our sport and business on a higher level. We also need government and corporate Ghana’s financial backing in the form of sponsorship for our promoters. Thank you to the GBA board led by Lawyer Peter Zwennes and my predecessor, Naa Darkoa Dodoo”
Mr. Okine is not new to the boxing fraternity as he has been very instrumental to the promotion of the ‘Bukom Fist of Fury Fight Night Series’ which aims at promoting amateur boxers as well as professional boxers who aim to get their career back on track.
Joining hands to work with many other boxing reporting agencies including Boxinghana.com as the Associate Editor and a member of the Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana (SWAG) where he once served as a Deputy Secretary and also joined the ring side as a Gym Instructor at York 250 Gym.
Boxing Ghana extends their congratulatory notes to Mr. Sammy Heywood Okine for his new office and looks forward to working productively with the General in the promotion of the sport.
