The lightweight division is about to witness a titanic clash next month between the undefeated and WBA World champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis and another undefeated contender, Ryan Garcia.
Gervonta Davis (28-0, 26KOs) who holds the WBA World lightweight strap has revealed that he’s expecting a tough fight just like some fights he watched
“We’re back at it. We’ve got another dance partner. Coming up, I watched Floyd and Oscar, also Bernard Hopkins, Joe Goossen. It’s gonna be tough. This fight’s gonna be tough. This is what we came to do.”
He commended Garcia for finding his way through to get the fight
“I’m just happy to be part of this moment, sharing the ring with a young fighter like Ryan Garcia who’s willing to dare himself to be great. He talked his way into this fight, and now he’s gonna have to be able to show it.” The Tank said.
‘King Ry’ Garcia (23-0, 19KOs) whose highest achievement has only been to hold the WBC Interim Light strap looks forward to holding a world title, with this upcoming fight being a big step toward a world title shot. Garcia’s fight with Davis will be the biggest ever fight so far in his career and he admits that it’s a fight worth making him a champion
“To be a champion, you have to beat the best. It’s not about the titles, but about who you beat.” Garcia stated.
The Victorville-born fighter, Garcia, looks forward to storming Las Vegas come April 22 as he warns his opponent of his punches
“I don’t look like I hit hard but I do hit hard.”
The bout will take place at a 136-pound catchweight, and both boxers have competed at both 135 and 140 pounds, giving them flexibility going forward.
