Patrick Allotey has won the new WBO Africa super welterweight champion after stopping Frank Dodzi in round six on Saturday night at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
It was a one-sided fight as Allotey proved too strong for Dodzi who prior to the bout promised to stop the new champion in round three, but that didn’t happened.
In round one, Allotey worked behind his stiff jabs preventing Dodzi from coming forward.
Allotey hurt Dodzi in round two with a right cross but the latter stood to his ground.
Dodzi in round three put pressure on Allotey but he failed to land any clean shots – Allotey was the aggressor.
Dodzi had his best moment in round four as he landed a straight right but Allotey replied with some combinations.
Allotey staggered Dodzi in round five with a powerful left hook – Dodzi wasn’t perturbed as he pushed forward. Allotey connected a left hook that nearly dropped Dodzi but the latter again stood to his ground.
In round six, Allotey piled pressure as he landed had shots to the head and body of Dodzi that forced the latter’s corner men to throw in the towel – the official time of the stoppage was 2:34.
Allotey after his victory called for a rematch with Kazakhstan’s Kanat Islam. The Ghanaian lost to Islam two years.
