Opponents Are Very Deceptive So Go Into Bouts With Varied Strategies-Former GBA PRO To Isaac Dogboe
Former Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mohammed Amin Lamptey has implored former super bantamweight world champion Isaac Dogbe to adopt varied strategies in the ring just like he displayed against Chris Avalos last week.
Isaac ‘The Royal Storm’ Dogboe produced a stunning return to the ring on Tuesday, July 21 2020 at the empty MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, USA when he beat Mexican-American Chris Avalos via an 8th round technical knockout in the featherweight division.
The Ghanaian went into the fight with doubts over his credentials after back to back defeats to Mexican Emmanuel Navarrete in 2019, losing his world title in the process. According to experts, Dogbe succumbed to the defeats due to his inability to adopt varied strategies in the ring and lack of experienced coaches as well.
But Dogboe made a statement of intent when he brought in a new trainer Barry Hunter replacing his father Paul Dogbe who had been his long time trainer. Barry Hunter’s impact was felt throughout the fight, issuing instructions from his corner with Dogbe looking sharp and appearing comfortable fighting in the featherweight division.
Speaking to Stephen Zando in an exclusive interview on Kumasi-based YFM, Mohammed Lamptey, who is a former PRO of the GBA was impressed seeing glimpses on how Dogboe should carry himself in the ring.
“Every boxer has a challenge, you cannot have a complete boxer and that’s why it is a sport, you lose, you draw and then you win.” He said.
“So for me, I think that, the only problem I have with Isaac is the punching power and I saw some changes in his last fight regarding this.
“Also, you must as a boxer go into a fights with varied strategies because we don’t go into a fight with the preoccupation of you going to stop your opponent come what may and that’s the game plan of Isaac Dogboe which is wrong.
“As a boxer, you should have varieties of strategies because opponents are very deceptive”.
“You may watch a video of your opponent fighting in a different style but when the person meets you, depending on how you approach the game and how you present yourself to the opponent, he might change his game plan.
“So if you think that, yours is just going to stop your opponents regardless, then you are going to laugh at the wrong side of your mouth just as we saw in Navarrete’s fight”. He added.
Isaac Dogboe on making his return to the ring since May 2019, decided to switch division by moving up to the Featherweight division from the Bantamweight where he became world champion in 2018.
