Coach Ofori Asare, an AIBA certified instructor and the only Boxing Coach to win a medal for an African country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan has expressed disappointment in the performance by the ladies from the African continent.
“Africa has to begin to reanalyse our participation at the World Championships. We have to come up with some qualifies and boot camps to prepare our boxers, we cannot just go there and have ourselves disgraced”
The experience Coach who has won medals for Ghana in 3 consecutive Commonwealth games advise that Africa Boxing Confederation must organise tournaments to prepare our boxers, as well as Zonal and National Heads, this will lead to the development of the sport as well as the rising of world class female boxers who can represent Africa and win medals at future world championships for their countries.
He advised that when there are big championship tournaments, African countries can collaborate to prepare their female boxers very well. He believes that we can change the status quo of losing to winning medals. We can change it with proper preparations.
