I’m ready to fight the best in the division and prove I reign supreme over all of them – Errol Spence Jr.
Current holder of the IBF welterweight title Errol Spence Jr. (23-0, 20 KOs) is nearly about securing his wish of fighting in his hometown where he started pugilism.
Spence looks more likely to fight Carlos Ocampo (22-0, 11 KOs) from Mexico the mandatory challenger after the sanctioning body’s insistance.
“I don’t think there’s any extra pressure fighting in my hometown.
It’s just an added motivation. Real pressure was fighting against 30,000 fans in the champion’s hometown for my first title against Kell Brook. This is me fighting in front of people who love me and who have seen me grow up as a boxer. I can’t wait to put on a show for them.
I feel like I’ve definitely earned this hometown fight. To go to another country and fight a champion in his hometown, and to win the belt, I think I deserve to defend my belt in front of my fans.” the current IBF welterweight champion stated.
Carlos Ocampo though the mandatory challenger, is not really tested hence most pundits predicting a walk-over and something Spence seems to be aware.
“ I’m never looking past anyone, but I’d love to fight Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter and, when he’s back, Keith Thurman. I’m ready to fight the best in the division and prove I reign supreme over all of them.” Spence said.
Ocampo is yet to fight beyond the borders of Mexico, aside the fact that he has fought relatively unknown fighters going into this fight but like they say in boxing anything can happen.
