Ghana’s Frederick Lawson advances to the semis, set to meet Chris Van Heerden in the on-going Jose Sulaiman World invitational tournament

Ghana’s former world welterweight  title contender Frederick Okunka Lawson (27-1,21 KO’s) advances to the semi finals of the ongoing Jose Sulaiman World invitational tournament at the KFC YUM Centre in the states after he defeated his Chinese counter-part Baishanbu Nasiyiwula (14-2-1, 6 KO’s) last month.

Nicknamed the ‘EL-General,’ Lawson faces Chris Van Heerden, a resident in Santa Monica, California (26-2-1,12 KOs) in the semis which is scheduled to be announced soon.

The southpaw won his last fight via Unanimous decision against Timo Schwarskopf (18-2, 12 KOs) from Stuttgart Baden-wuttemberg in Germany.

Frederick is one of the few pugilist that Ghana is counting on for a world title in the next two years and so far so good as the Jamestown native is making waves in the on going tournament.

Under Coach Carl Lawrence Lokko and Kwame Asante, he has a splendid world class tutors and his imminent fight against the German-born Chris Van Heerden is going to be arguably his next biggest challenge.

But with his good reflexes coupled with his speed, power and style, the Ghanaian is expected to sail through to the finals.

After flooring the Japanese Baishanbu, Frederick Lawson has seen his name catapulted into the conversation of elite possible world title contenders.
