The President of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Lawyer Peter Zwennes has called on promoters and match makers to give boxing fans credible bouts to resuscitate the interest of boxing in Ghana.
He said the deadly pandemic, Covid -19 really caused boxing a lot, but humans have to fight it, and the best way to draw boxing fans to fight centers is by pairing good boxers.
He expressed that fights of inconvinence would not help anyone; not even the promoter, match maker and boxers.
“Poorly arranged fights rather take away the shine and excitement, so I want to advice promoters and match makers to come out with mouth watering pairing to bring back the delight in the game’ he said.
He noted that it is a shame to have good record locally, but perform poorly outside Ghana.
According to him, the next GBA leadership must ensure that equally good boxers are matched to give boxing fans what they pay to watch.
Messrs. J.A. Annan and Yoofi Bohan, two experienced boxing officials have supported the concern of the president, and warned match makers to look for active boxers who can pull crowds to bring back the interest in boxing.
The GBA recently issues a statement that all boxers would be required to produce their licenses during weigh-in sessions and on fight nights.
Meanwhile, young promoter, Mr. Edwin Evans of Winbase Promotions has been commended for staging a good event which produced fireworks and marvelous boxing.
Although most of the boxers were debutants, they put up great performances.
