George Ashie has challenged the current WBO Africa champion Emmanuel Tagoe aka the Game Boy of BabyJet Promotions to a fight.
Speaking after a three round exhibition bout at the ongoing boxing league dubbed “Fist of Fury” yesterday, Ashie accused the WBO Africa champ of being the mastermind in recent consistent calls by Sherrif Quaye on him for a fight.
“I have heard Sherrif Quaye challenging me to a fight, Sherrif Quaye is not my problem but rather the people pushing him to fight me.” Ashie stated.
When pushed to mention the name of the person masterminding the challenge, Ashie emphatically stated the name of Emmanuel Tagoe.
“the person behind it is BabyJet Promotions Emmanuel Tagoe and I want to fight him rather. I am stating it here and now….. I want to fight Emmanuel Tagoe.”
Abraham Neequaye, the current manager of Emmanuel Tagoe who doubles as the first vice president of the Ghana Boxing Authority was quick to clarify things
“We equally accept his challenge, let me state this, we threw a challenge to him a couple of weeks ago but he was apprehensive and came up with a barrage of excuses. He did not sign the contract that we presented to him under the pretence of having a fight. So if he is ready we can unify all the belts.” Neequaye stated.
The two boxers are no stranger to each other as their first bout was controversially won by Emmanuel Tagoe amidst the claims of unfairness from the camp of George Ashie.
But boxing legend Nana Yaw Konadu disagree with Neequaye’s acceptance of the Ashie fight, and rather labelled it as retrogression.
I think it’s not a good fight for Tagoe, he should rather be aiming high…. he’s got the chance to go for the world title, so it’s only prudent that he concentrate and surge forward with his career rather than fighting Ashie. Honestly, I think it’s a retrogression rather than a progression for Emmanuel Tagoe should he accept to fight George Ashie Konadu.
