A delegation from the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) led by their president (Peter Zwennes) WBO Vice President (John Duggan), WBO rep in Africa Samir Captan and Sports Minister Hon. Isaac Asiamah on Monday January 8, 2018 made a courtesy call on the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In his absence, the delegation were received by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Frema Opare. Among other important issues that were discussed to solicit for funds to support potential Ghanaian world title boxers, these boxers came up;
Three Ghanaian boxers will be fighting for the World title this year, and they are:
1. Habib Ahmed- 3rd February 2018
2. Raphel Mensah- March 2018
3. Isaac Dogbe -10th March 2018
Richard Commey on 10th February 2018 in Texas will be fighting Alejandro Luna for the IBF World lightweight eliminator.
On 27th Januray, 2018, Emmanuel Tagoe will be making his first defense of his IBO lightweight belt at the Bukom Boxing Arena against David Fernando Saucedo.
The Chief of Staff, on behalf of the government expressed their interest to support the Ghana Boxing Authority financially and morally on the afore-mentioned, in the wake of Isaac Dogboe’s spectacular display on the 6th January 2018. She added that support from government will be shared equally among the boxers.
