Floyd Mayweather: When Tank hits Garcia, he ain’t gonna wake up until next year

Former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather, who promoted Gervonta Davis for most of his career, believes his former charge will knock Ryan Garcia out.

Davis will collide with Garcia this coming Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Mayweather retired from the sport in 2017, after going to a perfect 50-0 with a knockout win over UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a high profile crossover showdown.

After retiring, Mayweather focused on his promotional company – Mayweather Promotions.

Davis was the biggest star under Mayweather’s banner, but they parted ways last year. Although they parted ways, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe has been assisting Davis’ team with the promotion of the Garcia clash.

Mayweather expects Davis to win his upcoming test in dramatic fashion.

“Ryan hasn’t won a title yet. We don’t talk about no interim belt – that don’t count. And we not taking nothing away from the guy, [Javier] Fortuna, but he was just an opponent. I’m gonna have ‘Tank’ in the best shape of his life. And just know, when he hit that boy, he ain’t gonna wake up until next year,” Mayweather told Fighthype.com.

For Davis’ part, he’s consistently explained that there is a gap in class between the two of them – and he doesn’t view Garcia as being in his class.

“I have the full package. I don’t think he has the full package with his overall ability. He doesn’t bring any concern for me to need to change up my game plan,” Davis said.

“I don’t want to sound cocky. I wouldn’t know until I get in the ring with him – his movement, his hand speed. I’ll fill him out overall, break him down by his mistakes, and then we’ll get him out of there.”
