Ghana’s Richard Commey has been ruled out for six weeks, Boxinghana.com can exclusively report.
Commey, who won the vacant IBF world lightweight belt on February 2, in Frisco against Isa Chanviev suffered a handle injury.
The Ghanaian picked up the injury in round one of the clash.
However, after seeing his doctors on Thursday, February 8, to ascertain the extent of the injury, he has been ruled out of action for six weeks.
With the latest development, the potential unification bout against Vasyl Lomachenko (WBO and WBA world lightweight champion) on April 12 has been called off.
“Richard Commey is out for six weeks,” Commey’s manager Michael Amoo-Bediako told Boxinghana.com.” So the unification on April 12 with Lomachenko is off.”
“Richard will see another specialist on Tuesday, February 12,” he added.
