WBO African champion Emmanuel Tagoe is supporting fellow countryman Richard Commey to win the world title against Isa Chaniev.
“Richard Commey has worked hard for this title, he deserves to win the IBF belt. I am very certain about his chances of defeating Chaniev for the belt.” Emmanuel Tagoe said.
Nicknamed ‘The Game Boy,’ the Jamestown native is set to launch his defense of the strap he won against former world champion Moses Paulus in October this year.
“I am now rated number 12 in the IBF lightweight division and I am in the best shape ever. I am hoping to fight the winner of Commey Chaniev. My ultimate aim is the world title.
“I want the world title to come to Ghana, at the end of the day it is Ghana that benefits, hence the reason I want Richard Commey to win against Chaniev.”
When I quizzed the champ about his personal ambitions of amassing the world strap, it was automatic :
“I am going to win the world title in 2019, that is more than a fact. I am very certain about that ambition. I am feverishly and fiercely preparing to meet that ambition.
“I really want to fight the best out there, a shot at Lomachenko won’t be bad at all, I really want to fight him.” Tagoe told BoxingGhana.
The Ghanaian who is endowed with a collection of straps namely IBF Inter-Continental super featherweight title, WBA International titles at super featherweight and lightweight, also IBO lightweight world title and currently WBO Africa lightweight strap is confident of adding a world title belt come next year 2019.
“After this fight, I am going for the world title. I believe that I am the best in the lightweight division and I am ready to prove it.” Tagoe added.
Emmanuel Tagoe is set to make his first defense of the strap he won against Namibian Moses Paulus against a yet to be known opponent on 26
