Ghana’s world title hopeful Richard Commey will get the chance to fight for the IBF World Lightweight strap. He’ll fight against Russia’s Isa Chaniev as one of the three world title bouts on the card’s of Eleider Alvarez’s re-fight with Sergey Kovalev on February 2 at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas.

Eleider Alvarez will be defending his WBO Light Heavyweight title against former champion Sergey Kovalev in August via a seventh round TKO in a fight that surprised many.

Ghana’s Richard Commey who is anticipating a battle with Isa Chaniev will fight on the same card. The fight is going to be live on ESPN.

In all, there are three world title bouts on the night including Richard Commey’s battle against Isa Chaniev.

Louis DiBella was happy to have fulfilled his plan to the latter towards the Ghanaian.

“When I started working with Richard in September 2016, our plan was to give him another chance to fulfill his dream of becoming a world champion.” promoter Lou DiBella said.

He continued by expressing confidence in Commey’s abilities

“While Chaniev is a very tough Russian boxer, I’m confident that Richard has the skills, punching power and the mental toughness to come out victorious. Thanks very much to ESPN and Top Rank for partnering with DiBella Entertainment in televising this outstanding lightweight championship battle.” DiBella concluded.

Most Ghanaians cant wait to watch the Jamestown native, one of the most respected Ghanaian athlete to finally win the strap which controversially eluded him against Robert Easter Jnr.
