Can Devin Haney man up to face Richard Commey after a ‘shaky’ performance?

Before Devin Haney’s matchup with Jorge Linares, his father was heard taking a dig on Richard Commey fighting his son; a tweet by Michael Amoo-Bediako confirming his claim

“And there was @Realdevinhaney dad saying in a recent interview that he doesn’t have to fight @RichardCommey because he has losses on his record, @JorgeLinares has 5!!!🦆🦆🦆 @loudibella @trboxing @AdamCatterall @BernieBahrmasel @craigscott209 @DiBellaEnt @AnsonWainwright”

And that reveals Devin Haney ignoring a “weaker” opponent with record 30-3, 27KOs and fighting a “stronger” opponent Jorge Linares (46-5, 29KOs). The fight between Haney and Linares came to past last Saturday with many connoisseurs of the game not entirely impressed with defender despite him winning via unanimous decision.

The score cards read 116-112(2X) and 115-113 all for Haney.

Some of boxing’s young stars were critical of Devin Haney’s performance

The WBC Interim World Light titlist Ryan Garcia tweets “I would’ve slept you”

WBO International Welter champion Vergil Ortiz Jr on twitter “I’ve never seen that many consecutive hugs and no warning 💀💀”

And then the Unified Lightweight King Teofimo Lopez had lots of words in just an imoji ” 🍽”

I remember a similar situatuation occurred when highly tipped Teofimo Lopez struggled to beat Masayoshi Nakatani, but he defied all odds to fight former IBF champion Richard Commey and became a Unified champion overcoming Commey and Lomachenko on the journey.

Does Haney have such courage? Will he face a top contender like Commey,  Lopez or Lomachenko? It looks like Ryan Garcia is calling for that fight but, Richard Commey who is poised to become a 2X world champion could land that fight with Haney if the WBC King arent scared enough.

The lightweight division is currently packed with ‘hungry lions in a jungle’ where the lazy and weak cannot survive it.
