Bruno Surace knocks out Jaime Manguia flat out  in front of his home crowd

Bruno Surace
stunned the boxing world. The Frenchman went on the road and knocked out Jaime Munguia with a right hand in the sixth round of the super middleweight main event Saturday evening at Estadio Caliente in Munguia’s hometown of Tijuana, Mexico.

After a quiet opening round, Munguia gave the home crowd something to cheer about in the second, knocking down Surace with a counter left hook to the chin. Surace (26-0-2, 5 KOs) survived the round, but his tendency to lean against the ropes offered Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) an inviting target.

In the sixth, Munguia offered Surace the more inviting target, leaning back with his hands down. And Surace delivered the right hand of a lifetime. Munguia attempted valiantly to reach his feet, but he could not continue. And, with one magical punch, Surace authored an upset for the ages.

“I know that he is an excellent boxer. So, we worked on our counter punches,” Surace said. “He is a true warrior. I want to thank him for the opportunity. This was a big experience for me.

“Middleweight is my true weight class. But we’ll see if {a rematch} can happen.”
