The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has lifted with immediate effect, the two(2)-year ban imposed on former world champion Richard Commey for what was described by the boxing governing body as gross misconduct.
The decision was taken by the newly constituted GBA executive board and communicated via a press statement on Tuesday September 28, 2021 after weeks of meetings to review the sanction, which was imposed on the boxer six months ago.
Commey, in a TV interview in February this year made comments about some members of the GBA executive board, which the boxing governing body described as ‘disparaging’.
Although the boxer subsequently retracted his comment and apologised, the GBA went ahead to met out the ban on him, describing his apology as half-hearted.

But in a press statement released by the GBA on Tuesday, the boxing governing body noted that the decision to lift the ban on the boxer was taking at an emergency meeting on Monday after a series of considerations.
Per the release, Richard Commey is now free to compete in any event organised by the GBA.
The statement also sounded a word of caution to Commey and all Ghanaian boxers to be circumspect in their future conducts.
