Controversial boxer Michael Okine known in public circles as Ayitey Powers has been arrested and put behind bars for defrauding former Hearts of Oak player Eugene Addo, Ghana Sports Online and boxingghana.com can authoritatively report.

The 37-year-old is languishing in police cell at the James Town Police Station.

The Cruiserweight boxer has been charged with defrauding three persons including a former Hearts of Oak player and is set to be arraigned before court.

He was refused bail by the police.

Ghana Sports Online understands the victims tried to retrieve their money roundly worth $8,000 from the boxer but were unsuccessful.

The Greater Accra Police Command arrested Powers on Friday upon report by the victims and would prepare him for court on Monday.

He could be remanded into prison custody.

In July 2014, he was reported to have also defrauded two residents of Kumasi to the tune of $3,500 under the guise of securing them travel documents to Australia.

MyNewsGh has reported details of the earlier incident four years ago.

Kofi Asare and Prince Adjei Sarpong, also known as Nana Yaw, allegedly paid GH¢ 7,500.00 and GH¢ 6,500, respectively, as part-payment of GH¢ 28,000.00 being charged for visas to enable them to travel to Australia for a boxing contest.

Documents purported to have been presented to the Australian High Commission in Accra for visa presents Asare as the boxer while Nana Yaw is the trainer. They were however denied visas because the documents were found to be fake and persistent efforts by the two men to get a refund of their money have failed.
