Agbeko Tips Commey To Become World Champion

Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) World bantamweight champion, Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko, has described compatriot lightweight contender, Richard Commey as someone who is destined to become a world champion after the Ghanaian landed himself another world title shot against Russia’s Isa Chaniev in Texas on February 2 next year.

Agbeko, who defeated Luis Alberto Perez to win the world title in 2007, tipped Commey to defeat Chaniev in their upcoming bout and said the Ghanaian was now riped to take over the world.

Commey, (27-2, 24 KOs), will be making his second world title bid, having lost his maiden shot in a controversial split decision loss to Robert Easter Jr in 2016.

In a chat with the Daily Graphic, Agbeko explained that the February 2 bout would be Commey’s biggest challenge to realise his dream and backed him to achieve the world title dream early next year.

“Commey is destined to become a world champion and I believe his fight against Chaniev would be the opportunity to achieve that.

“He has the quality of winning the world championship and I tip him to win convincingly against his opponent in their upcoming bout,” he said.

When asked what Commey must do to avoid in slip, Agbeko noted that his countryman must be focused and determined in the ring to achieve his target.

He, however, cautioned Commey to desist from underrating any opponent at the highest level such as the world championship in order to avoid an upset.
