The only ‘General’ in the world of pugilism Frederick Okunka Lawson  is set to take on his South African counterpart in the semi finals of the on-going Jose Sulaiman  World Invitational Tournamant in Toronto, Canada.

The fight commences on Saturday the 25th of August 2018 against a tough customer in the person of Chris Van Heerden.

Chris has won 26 fights so far, lost twice and has 12 KOs with a solitary draw.

The former IBO welterweight champion was floored by the current International Boxing Federation World Welterweight title holder Errol Spence Junior (24-0, 21 KOs) of the United states three years ago.

The South African’s other defeat was against Nikola Stevanovic in 2011 over 12 rounds but lost via a unanimous point decision and in the process failing to land the International Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Super Welterweight Title in 2010.

Chris’ fight was on 27 of April against Timo Schwarzkopf which he won via a 12 round unanimous point decision.

Before that he had defeated Sacky Shikukutu via a 10th round unanimous decision on October 22,  2018 and won the vacant World Boxing Association Pan- African Welterweight Title.

Chris Van Heerden is a southpaw and one of the most loved and celebrated boxers in South Africa.

Nicknamed the ‘Heat’ the
Johannesburg born, Gauteng native first ever encounter with a Ghanaian opposition was against Raymond Akwete “Ray” Narh popularly called ‘Sugar Ray’ and is a former WBC–USNBC light welterweight champion but currently inactive in the pugilism business.

Ray Narh was floored by Chris Van Heerden in 2014.

Narh equally lost to Frederick Lawson in the same year 2014.

The stakes are high in  this battle as the overall winner of the Jose Sulaiman World Invitational Tournament will be in a pole position to fight for the WBC Welterweight World Title.

One thing remain constant, Frederick Lawson is just a man on a mission and in the form of his life going into the bout.
