
“We have developed, now we want to produce world boxing champions” says Abraham Kotei Neequaye
… GBA President appeals for government and corporate support to win more continental titles
Mr. Abraham Kotei Neequaye, President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has appealed to the Minister of Sports and Recreation Hon Kofi Adams and CEOs of companies in Ghana for support to win world titles.
He observed that the success of GBA Presidents are determined by world titles however most of the popular boxers were ageing, so they came out with the Ghana Professional Boxing League which has been competitive and produced quality pugilists.
“We have passed the development stage and are now ready to produce,” he stressed
He emphasised that there are more than 16 budding boxers who can take the nation to the bigger world stage.
Speaking at the seminar organised by Ace Power Promotions on Wednesday, he named some of the boxers who participated in the Boxing League as Charles Tetteh, Elvis Ahorgah, Cann Neequaye, Akimos Ampiah, Bismark Saah, George Faho Mensah, Africanus Neequaye, Jerry Lartey and others.
He said the GBA needs collaboration to clinch world titles working closely with promoters, boxers. matchmakers and sponsors.
He also addressed the issues of safety and security at the boxing arena calling on boxers to educate their fans and caution them.
Mr. Neequaye urged promoters to come out with attractive sellout packages for boxers to fight and entertain fans.
He promised that the security problems will be solved.
Other speakers at the seminar were Alex Ntiamoah Boakye, President of the Promotions Association, former IBF Bantamweight Champion Joseph Agbeko and Dr. Adae Opoku Amoako the founder of Ace Power Promotions, hosts of the seminar on ‘Uplifting Ghana Boxing’.
Other speakers who contributed via zoom and viral sources were Gabriel Blinder, Andre Rozier, Eric Davis, Isaac Dogboe, Richard Commey and boxing journalist cum ring announcer Nat Attoh.
