The latest World Boxing Organization (WBO) rankings saw some interesting changes as Ghana’s Joshua Buatsi is currently ranked the number one contender in the light heavyweight division while John Laryea losses his spot in the top 15 according to the very latest chart putout by the sanctioning body.
The feat does not come as a surprise as the London based Ghanaian pugilist Buatsi beats fellow Londoner Dan Azeez in a light-heavyweight contest at Wembley Arena after dropping him twice in round eleven of their grueling fight.
Joshua Buatsi is now expected to fight either WBA champion Dmitry Bivol or IBF / WBC/WBO king, Artur Beterbiev.
LIGHTWEIGHT (135 lbs) (61.24 kgs) division saw Sheriff Quaye, who is the current (WBO Africa) champion, now rated number 8 in the world.
The biggest surprise comes in the featherweight division, where Ghana’s John Laryea was omitted from the top 15 rankings.
Remember Laryea was recently signed on to Fight Game Advisors, a leading boxing management company managed by boxing guru Peter Kahn.
The Bronx Boxing Gym protege is the current WBO Africa Featherweight Champion, who recently defeated Isaac Dowuona via a round 7 technical knockout.
