WBO Global Champ Wasiru Mohammed billed to make his title defence against John Amuzu

Ghana’s World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global Super Bantamweight champion, Wasiru ‘Gyatabi’ Mohammed, is billed to make his title defence against Benin’s John Amuzu on January 31 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

The undefeated Wasiru is expected to headline the event which could prove to be the first boxing promotion of the year under a new promotional outfit.

Wasiru is currently rated 11th by the WBO and his return to the ring will put an end to seven months of inactivity since last dispatching Loren Japhet of Tanzania at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Confirming the fight to the Graphic Sports, Technical Advisor to Wasiru, Yoofi Boham, said the bout was expected to push for the hard-hitting Ghanaian fighter’s world title bid this year.

Mr Boham, who disclosed the details of the fight from his London base, noted that his outfit was bent on ensuring Wasiru made a successful title defence having won the belt last June.

“Everything is in place for Wasiru to make his first title defence by the end of the month in Accra.

“We have confirmed an opponent from Benin for the fight which will be a headliner for a new promotional outfit,” he said.

Wasiru is undefeated in 11 professional bouts with 10 knockout victories. His last four wins came by way of knockouts and can make it five on the trot if he can replicate similar performance against Amuzu.

Amuzu, an experienced Beninois fighter comes into the fight on the back of 22 wins and a defeat in 23 bouts.

He possesses an impressive knockout wins with 20 in his 23 fights and will be up against Wasiru who will be looking for his seventh consecutive stoppage victory.

It promises to be a tough battle for both boxers, especially when they will be entering into the ring with a lot of punching exchanges on their minds.
