Wasiru’s IBF Inter-Continental Championship fight postponed to March 8, 2020
The International Boxing Federation’s (IBF) Inter-Continental super bantamweight championship fight between holder, Lodumo Lamati, and Ghana’s Wasiru ‘Gyatabi’ Mohammed has been postponed to March 8 in South Africa.
Lamatu, an undefeated fighter in 16 bouts, was billed to defend his crown against the Ghanaian World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global super bantamweight titleholder on Sunday but was cancelled due to logistical inefficiencies
Disclosing the news to Graphic Sports Online, Yoofi Boham, a technical advisor to Wasiru, noted that they were supposed to arrive in South Africa on Wednesday for the fight on Sunday but had a message from the promoters indicating that the fight has been called off.
Mr Boham explained that they were however working tirelessly to ensure that Wasiru returns to the ring as soon as possible in order not to suffer ring rust.
“The fight is off because just as we were planning to leave Ghana to South Africa, we had a message from the promoters that the bout has been postponed to March.
“Nevertheless, we are working tirelessly to ensure Wasiru returns to the ring as soon as possible in order not to suffer ring rust,” he said.
Wasiru, an undefeated fighter himself is yet to make his ring return six months after beating Loren Japhet to win the WBO Global title at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Having earned 10 knockout wins in 11 professional fights, the hard-hitting Wasiru is billed for greatness if he can hold on to his impressive records.
