WASIRU MOHAMMED TO FIGHT ASHLEY LANE FOR THE COMMONWEALTH STRAP.

Ranked number 1 by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), number 14 by the WBO and the current WBO super bantamweight Africa title holder Wasiru “Gyata Bi” Mohammed is set to fight the Commonwealth super bantamweight title holder on April 26 at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra.

Mohammed (10-0, 9KO), a very promising Ghanaian boxer managed and promoted by E&J promotions finally gets the opportunity to lay claims for the Commonwealth super bantamweight title when he faces Ashley Lane in Accra Ghana for the belt. With an excellent record of 10 wins and 90% by way of KO, Mohammed is set to define the future of his career with this particular bout.

Mohammed has come from an impressive encounter with Isaac Sackey, crashed him in round 3 to win the WBO super bantamweight Africa title. This particular bout sparked controversy when the Beninois referee Bertin Adohn stopped the fight when Sackey was dropped. Mohammed had stopped Kamarudeen Boyefio and Richmond Commey in round 1 and 2 respectively to win the vacant national title and defend it successfully.

Lane 28, (13-8-2, 1KO) won the vacant Commonwealth title in September 2017 and defended with chicky ease against Isaac Quaye and Ricky Leach.

The clash which will be a historic one, which will set the stage for more Commonwealth championships and title fights to be staged in Africa’s elite boxing hub Ghana.
