Ghana’s Wasiru Mohammed is now the World Boxing Organisation Global Super Bantamweight champion after his hard fought 11th round TKO victory over the Tanzanian Loren Japhet earlier today at the Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The bout was a closely contested encounter and it lived up to it’s championship billing as the Ghanaian maintained his unbeaten to 11 victories with no defeat and 10 by way of knockouts.

Dubbed “Ascension, The Lion Roars” so did the self styled GyataBi roared to victory by way of an 11th round TKO, arguably his toughest bout in his two year career reign as a professional boxer.

Japhet was very confident and while he dominated the bout in the early exchanges of the bout with his jabs and occasional combos, he was simply unable to hurt Wasiru Mohammed. The Ghanaian boxed his opponent with maturity, measured long combination and body shots which wore his opponents out as the closely contested rounds progressed until the eventual knockdown.

In the 11th round, Japhet could no more handle Wasiru’s hooks and hard punches and met a deadly punch whiles taken refuge on the ropes and fell badly and though he was able to make the count, the young Tanzanian warrior was in no capacity to continue the fight.

Ahead of the bout, Loren Japhet (9-3-2, 2 KOs) was predicting a knockout

“I believe I would knockout Wasiru. I would not say which round but for the 12 rounds, he would not make it.”

But Wasiru showed beyond every reasonable doubt his wit and maturity in the sweet science of boxing in a controlled performance.

“I want to thank every one who came  to support me tonight. I am very grateful for the support, keep supporting me for greater things to come.” The new WBO Global Champion expressed in his post fight comments.

The bill was put together by E&J Boxing Promotions bankrolled by the young partners Elis Kwame Quashigah, and John Owiredu Manfo.
