Christian Mbilli has informed World Boxing News he is ready to face Canelo Alvarez after amassing an impressive 28-0 record.
The 29-year-old Canada-based technician has been linked to facing Canelo in May 2025 after taking advantage of recent appearances on high-profile Top Rank cards. Mbilli is approaching his peak and believes now is the time to capitalize by becoming the number one super middleweight contender.
Asked about rumors of a possible fight with Canelo in May 2025, Mbilli said he’d accept an offer from the Mexican superstar.
“I’m always ready to face the best. If this fight materializes, I’ll be more than ready for the opportunity,” Mbilli told World Boxing News exclusively. “Canelo is a great champion; fighting him would be a major step in my career.”
On the mandatory spot, Mbilli added, “Of course, that’s the goal. I’m working hard to position myself as the mandatory challenger. If that opportunity comes soon, I’ll be ready to take it.”
If the Canelo clash is destined to be delayed, Mbilli is open to enhancing his chances by fighting on the Pay Per View star’s undercard to earn the right.
“Absolutely. Fighting on a card with Canelo would be a great exposure opportunity and a good lead-up to a future fight with him. My division has several big names [who I could face before Canelo], and I’m open to fighting anyone.
“There’s David Benavidez, Caleb Plant, and many others, which are interesting options. My goal is to keep climbing the rankings and face the best.”
Asked about Benavidez and if he thinks Canelo is avoiding the ‘Mexican Monster,’ Mbilli responded, “I don’t know if we can say he’s avoiding him, but it’s a fight that a lot of fans want to see. Benavidez is a tough opponent, and I think it would be a great fight for the division.”
The emerging Christian Mbilli
Right now, Mbilli is basking in the attention after being named one of the top emerging stars at 168 pounds following his victory over Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Mbilli wants to keep improving and be ready when the time comes to challenge the best.
“It’s flattering to hear that fans think that about me. I think it reflects my hard work and performance in the ring. I continue to train hard to prove that I deserve this recognition.”
Concluding on how long he plans to remain at super middleweight, Mbilli said, “I feel great at 168 pounds right now, so I plan on staying here for a while. But in the future, I might consider moving up in weight, depending on the opportunities.”
