Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc boosted it’s 147 pounds pool by signing top Welterweight Fredrick “General Okunka” Lawson (27-1-0, 21 KO’s) to a multi-year promotional deal.

Led by Lawson’s long time manager and mentor Jacob Zwennes of Errol Hawk Sports Management, negotiations were completed and the promotional contract signed ahead of Lawson’s next fight against Juan Ruiz scheduled for March 30th 2019 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Fredrick Lawson, considered the trail blazer and arguably the most talented of the current wave of Ghanaian fighters to graze the US boxing stage in recent years has had to endure a long and hard road back to the top level of the welterweight division.

After the December 2015 setback loss to Kevin Bezier in a final eliminator for the IBF World Welterweight title and the disappointment from the cancellation of the much anticipated semi-finals of the Jose Suleiman WBC World invitational challenge championship tournament, Fredrick has vowed to rise against all odds as has been the hallmark of the “General” throughout his career.

This will not be any different, the soft spoken Lawson said.
Coming off an April 2018 win against the current WBC International Super-Lightweight champion Baishanbo Nasiyiwula of China, Lawson is currently in camp preparing for his March 30 fight against Juan Ruiz, a fight that will jump start plans for a world title challenge.

Said Lawson,” God has always been good to me and has always been my guide. I will like to thank Top Rank for recognizing my potential and for opening up new opportunities for me and my team. I intend to realize my dream to become a world champion in the very near future. I am ever so grateful for my manager Jacob Zwennes who has believed in me through the good and challenging times and who has been very supportive of my career and development. Together, we have assembled a team of world class trainers who are going to take me on this next leg of the search for the “Golden Fleece”.

Mr. Bob Arum, this is General Okunka Lawson reporting for duty sir! .” The Ghanaian concluded.
