The national youth and juvenile boxing teams after its inauguration on the 11th of June 2021 at the conference centre in Accra held their first training session at the Bukom Boxing Arena last Saturday, 26th June.
The Youth and Juvenile teams backed by Mr. Moses Foh-Amoaning Esq. has received lots of appellation since it’s coming into existence with promissory notes from the Director of the National Sports Authority among others.
Every country has built upon these youth and juvenile teams to build a strong senior team over the years, giving room for more to be properly groomed.
Mr. Charles Quartey, the national team coach for the youth and juvenile teams in an exclusive interview disclosed that, “it has been very tough deciding which days we train as I do not want to compromise the education aspect of the children.”
He continued to reiterate “boxing is not an easy sport, you can’t take boxing as a hobby as a single punch can make or unmake your life. I personally started boxing with a lot of people whose lives have changed following one punch, some are visually impaired as others are wheeled around. I explain to every boxer to see the boxing ring as a war front, stay alert and stay alive.”
Having the utmost interest of the children at heart, Mr. Quartey has planned for all their training sessions to be on Saturday so the children can go to school alongside with boxing.
With the pace the youth and juvenile teams are picking up, it is evident their growth and transition into the senior level will be easy.
“We thank Mr. Moses Foh-Amoaning Esq. for his endless support to the national youth and juvenile boxing teams as he has been on the rampage seeking for sponsorships among others to ensure a smooth grooming process.” said Mr. Quartey.
With such team formations in place, the national senior boxing teams now have a future but at the same time these young boxers should be allowed to grow in the junior ranks while giving them the exposure and frequent educational activities and opportunities to help improve their entire lives as well as communities.
