Dr. Coach Ofori Asare has been involved with boxing since childhood and has made history or added his name to the history makers in the boxing discipline.
He has been a boxer, trained many other coaches from different countries and has made name for himself across the globe.
Dr. Coach Ofori Asare took a team of 3 boxers to the Tokyo Olympics and saw his boxer win the only Olympic medal for Ghana breaking a longing laurel burreness in Ghana.
After Samuel Takyi won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, many have hailed the enterprising boxer for his tenacity and ferociousness during the games but the question still remains whether or not the coach has received any such accolades for putting up a team that has won Ghana it’s only Olympic medal after over 20 years.
During their visit to Alhaji Inussah, Isaac Dogboe exclaimed, “if something goes wrong all the blame is on the coach, but if everything goes as planned the athlete is hailed forgetting the effort and input of their technical team. We need to remember and hail our coaches as they play a very important role in our achievements” after which he congratulated coach Asare.
Do our coaches deserve what they receive during and after ensuring their teams have won all such laurels they planned for?
As Coach Ofori Asare has promised to raise more future boxing world titlists, would his effort be commended or it will still follow the trend.
Every media house is in a haste to interview Samuel Takyi because he wears the medal around his neck but not who ensured his road to the medal was made possible.
Wisdom Boxing Gym was formed by Dr Ofori Asare and has opened his doors for all who are ready to learn boxing and his tutelage has always proven to yield good results just as was shown at the Olympics.
Just as Samuel Takyi has become an icon in Ghana, Coach Dr. Ofori Asare should be given the needed support even before he makes a request. His gym among other gyms and coaches should be supported to uplift their various gyms to modern standard to facilitate their engagement as it goes a long way to raise future champions not for their gyms but for Ghana.
