The dramatic twists and turns of an aspiring Juvenile prizefighter’s career is never cast in stone, so when I first received a message from one Caleb Mensah on his ambition to win Ghana a medal in the near future, I was intrigued by giving a glimpse of the life of a young boxer on the cusp of a career milestone.

Caleb, who’s the current skipper for the Ghana Juvenile boxing team according to my further research, introduced himself as a boxer.

“Pls I’m a boxer. I’m an ambassador for the Besesaka Boxucation Team, Captain for the Ghana National Juvenile Team and the only Second boxer in Ghana who has travelled outside to fight an exhibition match.” Caleb typed.

I asked him why boxing as against other sport.

“I love and also have passion for boxing.” He replied.

“I started boxing at the age of 11 and trains at the Wisdom Boxing Gym headed by Coach Ofori Asare.” He expressed.

A protege of coach Ofori Asare, who happens to be the new Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) best coach for the year 2020 after he jealously guided the Ghana Olympic team (Black Bombers) to win a Bronze medal at the just ended Tokyo Olympics.

To be trained by a national team coach in itself is a great feat, I thought to myself. But what is special about Caleb Mensah? I wandered.

According to Caleb, he wants “to become a mentor for the young boxers to look up to me.”

Kids need great role models beyond just their parents so for a 15 year old young man to harbour such ambition is refreshing.

In truth, 15 year old Caleb is a delight to watch in the ring. He started boxing at the age of 11 and is currently a junior high school graduate.

His father is currently deceased but his mum Grace Armah is in full support of her son’s current ambitions.

The Jamestown native is the current skipper of Ghana National Juvenile boxing team and a member of Besesaka project.

Finding a gym is a necessary prerequisite since all boxing careers start in the gym let alone the opportunity to be tutored by an experienced professional coach like Ofori Asare. Perhaps, a perfect marriage between a boxer and a coach.

As we keep an eye on this young budding talent, Boxing Ghana will keep readers updated on this young prospect. This is only an introductory article on the man Caleb Mensah. Something good is brewing in the boxing pot hence be on a watch out.
