Ghana’s former IBO World champion, Emmanuel ‘GameBoy’ Tagoe who’s time is more than due to become a 2X world champion but for the global pandemic (Covid 19) is very close on securing a title shot on the WBO world lightweight strap.
The hard working former world champ moved to the United States late last year after signing to work under DiBella Entertainment and also now being managed by a world class in Peter Kahn in pursuit of becoming a world champion once again.
To clear the air on how close Game Boy is on securing an elimination bout with Ryan Garcia for a title shot, the Managing Editor of your most authoritative boxing portal engaged in a convo with his manager Peter Kahn, who has been working strenuously in making Tagoe a world champion again.
Que: Hello Peter, are you able to confirm to me that indeed Emmanuel Tagoe is fighting Ryan Garcia in most probably August and not Campbell ?
Ans: Samuel, I hope you’re well. I can’t confirm that. All I can confirm is that the WBO ordered an elimination bout for Ryan Garcia to fight Emmanuel Tagoe to become the mandatory challenger for the world title held by Lomachenko. Tagoe’s promoter, Lou DiBella has reached out to Golden Boy Promotions to begin negotiations for this fight that could happen in October.
If Garcia declines and chooses to pursue the option of fighting Luke Campbell for the WBC eliminator, then the WBO will move on to the next available contender to fight Tagoe.
Que: How prepared is Team Tagoe and Tagoe for this fight knowing he’s yet to dust off his ring rust ?
Ans: Tagoe had an excellent camp from November to March in the United States in Florida. Although his fight in March was canceled due to COVID-19, Tagoe had a lot of sparring, including many rounds of work with George Kambosos Jr and others.
No matter who Tagoe fights, he will be prepared and ready to perform at his best.
Que: What is your message for critics that still doubt your boxer’s capabilities
Ans: We’re not interested in what other people think. We know what Tagoe brings to the table. When he’s in top shape and prepared to fight, he can beat anyone.
Que: What do you see different with Tagoe after some months of serious training in the USA under your tutelage
Ans: Ask Tagoe… He said he’s been missing this type of training his entire career.
Watch this space for any other development on negotiations to get the Game Boy Tagoe a title shot soon.
