Six Black Bombers Reach Quarter Finals Stage At Olympic Qualifiers
The Black Bombers are really performing well at the African Olympic Qualifiers in Dakar and they are now the focus of the competition after six out of the eight male boxers reached the quarter finals stage.
Already Dr. Ornella Sathoud has sailed through to the semi finals after she defeated Doreen Nassal from Uganda in the women’s middleweight (69-75kg).
The USA based boxer is on the brink of making history as the first female boxer to qualify to the Olympic Games.
SWAG Amateur Boxers of the Year 2019, Shakul Samed made meat of his Senegalese opponent, Soulleymane SY to reach the quarter finals in the men’s light heavyweight class.
Samuel Tackie also won 5-0 against his Malawian opponent, Yamikani Mtanbo in the featherweight division (52-57kg) to make it to the quarter finals.
Jessie Lartey won 4-1 against his opponent from Algeria, to qualify for the quarter finals.
Sulemanu Tetteh, the skipper of the Black Bombers who fights in the flyweight division, Abdul Omar Wahid, the lightweight sensation who was the only boxer at the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil 2016 and Anani Kutsuke, the super heavyweight all made it to the quarter finals.
The thrilling boxing qualifications dubbed the road to Tokyo 2020 which ends on February 29 continue today at the Dakar Arena.
Meanwhile, the secretary general of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Lawyer Richard Akpokavie who has been keenly monitoring the progress of the Black Bombers has sent congratulatory message to the team and urged them to do well and prove that Ghana has the best boxers on the continent.
