Not long ago Ghana celebrated one of its illustrious sons for breaking the barren medal situation after 29 years at the just ended Tokyo Olympics games.

Samuel ‘Ring Warrior’ Takyi who represented Ghana as part of the three boxers was the only to win a medal for the Ghanaian contingent and returned home to a roaring crowd.

After presenting his medal to the President of the republic of Ghana, Samuel Takyi has had the opening to speak of his future with many media houses where he revealed his plans for the future.

As much as everyone could guess the ‘Ring Warrior’ will turn pro one day, many were not expecting it to be as soon as was expressed by the Olympic medalist.

In an interview with Happy FM, Samuel ‘Ring Warrior’ Takyi had these for his fans and Ghana.

“My return from Tokyo made me realize i have made Ghana proud so Ghanaians received me in a good way so we were all proud and also very happy. I was very happy when i stepped out of the plane to see the crowd cheering us on and they were all happy because i was able to go and do something like this, at a young age like this and i have been able to do something like this so we were all very happy. I have brought the medal here and everyone has seen it.”

He continued, “Boxing is a very difficult sport, but boxing is a game so its normal like that. You know boxing is a talent and we are groomed more in training to grow our technique and stamina. I was a footballer, I wasn’t a boxer but i switched to boxing because i realized it was the talent God has gifted me. I was very good with the football but the thing is boxing was rather the talent that God gave me, I liked football and never thought I will find myself as a boxer.”

“One day I happened to wear gloves to fight and within me, I felt i could do boxing then I stopped football till this date. My environment really played a big role in my development because that is where we have majority of the boxing champions, boxers who have won world titles all come from around those areas.

“I cant leave my coach out, he has really helped me, he has to chase me if i ditch training, comes home to pick me to the gym, he made sure I have all I needed from shoes to what you can mention. Thanks to him and many others, this is where God has brought me. My coach is from the Discipline Boxing Academy, we have many talented boxers, many amateur boxers who are also in the national boxing team who are also doing really well and when attention is given to them, they can also go to the Olympics and win us more medals.”

“I have the believe that I will be a world champion and that is always my dream and I will achieve it. I want to go professional because many people were throwing fusses about me saying I am not fit for pro and that I cannot do well like I have done in the olympics, that is what influenced my decision to go pro. But after discussions with my team and technical corner, they made me understand there are more tournaments to fight and also more preparations to be done before any such decision would be taken”

Ghanaians are now happy and hailing the Olympic medalist for his decision to stay in the amateur ranks until he is properly groomed.
