After breaking the 29 years medal drought for Ghana at the Olympics, Samuel ‘Ring Warrior’ Takyi’s name has become the talking point in every household.
Ghana presented three boxers at the Tokyo Olymlics with one winning a bronze medal which happens to be the only medal Ghana could boast of.
After returning home from the Olympics, Samuel ‘Ring Warrior’ Takyi and the team have received accolades from the government, individuals and corporate bodies who supported the team before, during and after their Olympic journey.
Presenting his medal to the president of the Republic of Ghana revealed the plans the president has for the team after representing Ghana well. Takyi who was promised a brand new car and a total sum of $30,000 cash price had more to say during an interview on ‘Warm Up+’ a morning show on Tv3.
Samuel Takyi who has been known for his ferocious enterprising display when in the ring, disclosed his desire to win world titles for Ghana just like Prof Azumah Nelson among other boxers have done for Ghana.
As many have taunted his desire to turn professional only after winning a bronze medal at the Olympics, Takyi disclosed saying; “I have fought difficult fights and with different opponents. I knocked out the number one seed during the African qualifiers to the Olympics and I know my strengths. I am ready to turn pro and win world titles for Ghana.”
With his uprising desire to turn professional, Ghana has risen to support and wished him well should he venture and also urg him to put in much more as going professional demands more.
Despite his amazing skills and talent having great ability to adjust to an opponent’s fighting plan in the ring, Samuel Takyi will have to prepare pretty well to face opponents in one of the hottest divisions in the punching business.
Just like the WBO Africa Featherweight king, John Laryea, Takyi must do well to climb the ranks gradually to give him the required experience to prepare him for tougher opponents as he build his CV well for the ultimate goal in the near future.
We wish him well as he prepares to go pro.
