This year’s Boxing Ghana Awards have been an energizing tribute to the sport, packed with excitement and passion.
Among the many captivating nominations, the award for the Boxing writer of the year was strongly contested with veteran broadcaster Sammy Heywood Okine winning the coveted award.
Boxing Ghana has firmly positioned itself as a premier media authority, celebrating the vibrant boxing culture in Ghana and internationally. The awards scheme stands as a breathtaking tribute to the immense talent and impactful contributions of individuals and organizations in the boxing community.
The boxing writer of the year category featured elite boxing journalists across the country for their impactful promotion of the Ghana boxing to the world and beyond. The nominees included Prince Dornu Leiku, Sam Nana Gold and Sammy Heywood Okine. Online voting drew enthusiastic response, with 782 fans and professionals casting their votes.
Veteran broadcaster and elite boxing writer Sammy Heywood Okine won the coveted award with an impressive vote of 359 votes which translates to a notable 45.9%. With 30 years of experience, Sammy Heywood Okine is a leading sports journalist who currently serve as Deputy Communications Director at Ghana Olympic Committee and Founder of Boxing Writers Association of Ghana. He has worked with major newspapers such as Daily Guide the Statesman and Rainbow Sports, etc. and actively contribute to multiple online sports platforms such as boxinghana.com,modernghana.com,ultimatesportsgh.com. He is African Sports Media Network country director for Ghana. His captivating storytelling about boxing in Ghana has been profoundly impactful and has shaped the writing landscape in the sport.
Other outstanding boxing writers included Prince Dornu Leiku who secured 234 votes (29.9%) and Sam Nana Gold who garnered 215 votes (27.5%). The contributions from all nominees highlighted the vibrant communication and promotional efforts in Ghanaian boxing throughout the year.
