Robert Quaye drops Mouibi Sarouna twice to a second round stoppage
Surprisingly Robert Quaye put out a sterling performance against Mouibi Sarouna who was expected to be one of his tough opponents.
Quaye who has been out of the ring for 24 months since he last fought with Vincent Mbilinyi in December 2018 was expected to show ring rust but thoroughly dominated and dropped Sarouna twice in the second round en route to second round stoppage. Sarouna put up a spirited performance in the first round but lived short of it in the second round.
Quaye (18 – 0, 15 KOs) 26, dished a short left hook to the chin and followed with a straight right to the chest sending him to the canvas. Quaye attacked Sarouna after the count with a scathing straight right to his face falling heavily on the ropes and then to the canvas again. Refree Shadrack Acquaye counted and waved to signal the end of the fight.
“I have been training very hard not to disappoint my fans even though I have been out of the ring for some time now. I respect Sarouna because he is a great boxer and so I have to be a little strategic in how I approach this fight” Quaye said.
“I felt more comfortable in the second round, saw his weakness and took advantage of it and ended the fight in the second round” Quaye added.
The former WBO Africa super lightweight interim champion told Boxing Ghana that he is open for discussion with regards to his next fight and ready for any boxer that comes his way. He recently signed a co-managerial contract with his new promoters (ACE POWER Promotions) and his former managers and very confident 2021 is going to be a very good year for him.
