Robert Easter Junior had a fight of his life and was once again very lucky indeed to have escaped with a thin win against Javier Fortuna.
The IBF champion eked out Javier Fortuna (33-2-1, 23 KO) in one of his most controversial wins that has bedevilled his career on many occasions.
Robert Easter may have improved his record to 21-0 with 14 Knockouts but this fight at worse, should have scored a split draw and the judges have a lot to answer in this department.
The score card totally did not represent the true state of the fight 114-113,115-112, and 113-114. BLH was also a split, with Judge El Esco scoring it 115-112 in favour of the champion.
It was evident the fans did not agree with the decision and they registered their displeasure by booing at the champion on his victory speech.
Ironically, the applause that occasioned Fortuna’s speech said it all:
“The public knows what happened. They booed because they know that I won,”Bemoaned Fortuna.
Similar things happened against Shafikov and Ghana’s Richard Commey, however what is evident is the fact that Robert Easter Junior’s reign as a champion is fast diminishing and the winner between Richard Commey and Alejandro Luna in March will obviously take advantage to unsettle the new champion.
