Richard Commey will fight on July 28 – Lou DiBella
Boxing promoter who doubles as Founder and CEO of DiBella Entertainment Louis John “Lou” DiBella, Jr has given the clearest of indication that Ghana’s Richard Oblitey Commey will fight on July 28th at the Staples Center, USA.
Responding to a tweet on a possible comeback for Commey, the manager of Commey responded by saying
“Richard Commey will fight on the Undercard of Mickey Garcia Robert Easter Junior unification.” Lou tweeted.
He further revealed the reason for the bout. ” He (Commey) will fight to stay active.”
The outspoken boxing promoter issued a warning to all stakeholders
“@IBFUSBAboxing mandatory must take place within 90 days thereafter. If the winner refuses, Richard will fight for the vacated title.” Stated Dibella.
Richard Commey was to fight Robert Easter Junior (21-0, 14 KOs) the second time after he was controversial defeated by the Jamaican American on September 9, 2016.
What is yet to be known is the possible opponent for Commey who is the current mandatory challenger to Easter Junior after demolishing Alejandro ‘el-charro’ Luna via a sixth round TKO of the scheduled twelve rounder in March.
But the current IBF world lightweight champion opted to unify the belts instead of fighting Commey for the second time.
The winner of Garcia Easter will automatically fight Richard Commey or vacate the title as reiterated by Lou DiBella.
Garcia (38-0, 30 KOs) is touted as the best pound for pound pugilist in his division and perhaps the most feared of all. Speaking on the upcoming fight said
“I wanted to get a fight here at home, and it happens to be the biggest fight of my career, Right now at lightweight, there’s no bigger challenge than Robert Easter.”
“I could have taken an easier fight than Easter, but that wouldn’t help my legacy,” Garcia said. “This is my first chance to unify a division and to fight another champion.” Garcia voiced.
