IBF World Champion Richard Commey took to twitter to congratulate Ukrainian poster boy Vasiliy Lomachenko after the former secured the vacant WBC strap to his WBA and WBO titles yesternight in front of 20,000 people at the 02 Arena, in London, UK.
“Congratulations to Vasyl Lomachenko, well deserved winner but massive respect to Luke Campbell who put up a great fight.” The Ghanaian hard puncher depicting pure class to both victor and losser.
The experienced Richard Commey gave credit to a boxer though undefeated was still inexperienced but was able to show bravery and travelled the full 12 rounder with the popularly acclaimed Pound-for-Pound King in a unanimous decision (119-108 2X and 118-109).
Truth be told, Lomachenko is one belt shy of becoming the undisputed lightweight champion but that encounter is by far going to be his toughest against the Ghanaian hard puncher who has paid his dues and gone through the ranks of boxing, winning every single title from National Champion, to Continental Champion, to Commonwealth Champion, International champion and then the eventual World Champion after his first attempt which ended controversially in a Split Decision defeat to Robert Easter Jr in 2016.
Lomachenko did well in this fight, especially with the height and reach disadvantage when he resorted to his vicious body shots which the young Englishman struggled to deal with after their initial shadow boxing – with Lomachenko landing only one punch in the opening three minutes.
He moves to 14-1 as a professional with an eye on Richard Commey’s belt. But Commey must get past Teofimo Lopez in december for a date with with Lomachenko.
Fact, if Richard Commey, with the height/reach advantage, rich in experience, and hard punching is able to eat more body shots from the dinimitive Ukranian come fight night then Lomachenko will not only lose his belts but by a brutal KO.
