Referee Weeks Was Right – Ataa Eddie Pappoe

Ataa Eddie Pappoe, the most leading boxing referee / judge in Ghana has added his voice on the discussion of the decision of the last international boxing bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena when Referee Tony Weeks stopped the fight in the fifth round to earn Isaac Dogbe a TKO win over Cesar Juarez.

According to Ataa Eddie Pappoe who is the President of African Boxing Union Ring Officials, the referee in the middle acted very professionally on the night.

“There was nothing wrong with the stoppage. Tony acted swiftly and promptly. There are rules of every game’ he stressed.

After the fight, the Mexican who had fell heavily on the canvass from a left hook from Dogboe protested why the referee ended the fight very early.

His cornermen defended that their boxer charges the more he falls, but the experienced Ataa Eddie noted that the more you fall, it goes against you as it is all counted in deciding the winner of a contest, including ring generalship.

Ataa Eddie said the recent seminar for boxing trainers was in the right direction, and commended the leadership of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) who have been working with previous presidents to ensure that the sport is on track.

He congratulated former presidents, Samir Captan and Moses Foe Amoaning for their contributions, even when they are not running affairs.

He urged all stake holders to put their shoulders to the wheel to push Ghana Boxing to its proper position as the leading discipline and most potential for laurels for the nation.
