FORMER Africa champion, Rafael Mensah, says he is considering relocating to Ghana from the United States to relaunch his career when his contract with Don King Promotions expires in 2021.

He is already looking forward to joining the camp of Asamoah Gyan’s BabyJet Promotion to help revive his career.

The southpaw lamented that his American promoters seemed no longer interested in his career after losing his only world title challenge against Puerto Rican Alberto Machado two years ago.

According to him, his loss has also been compounded by the death early this month of his trainer, Jaamel Muhammad, after a brief illness.

Since the loss to Machado on July 21, 2018, Mensah is yet to enter the ring again. The 29-year-old told the Graphic Sports that he wanted a deal with BabyJet Promotions to resuscitate his dying career.

“I think my ring rust has been too long. If I’m to remain in the United States I think I will abandon this profession for another job to eke out a living, because this situation can’t take me anywhere,” he said via telephone from his Memphis base in the United States.

“I want Asamoah Gyan to manage and promote me; I want the kind of deal he had with Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe,” said 29-year-old Mensah who has lost just once in 31 professional fights.

Despite nearly 20 months of inactivity, the Ghanaians believes he still has what it takes to become a world champion.
