PUSHING WOMEN’S AGENDA : Focus on charismatic Irene Ntelemo and Anta Gueye

Meet charismatic Irene Ntelemo (left) and Anta Gueye, some of Africa’s hard-working boxing adminstrators burning the midnight oil to push the women’s agenda in the continent.

The indefatigable Ntelemo is currently the head of AFBC Women and Diversity Committee while the robust and no-nonsense Anta holds the powerful position of secretary-general of the Senegal federation and she’s also the SG of Zone 4.

And if you think you’ll bully Anta watch out. She holds a black belt in taekwondo and is known for her lethal kicks and punches.

Ntelemo is the Mother of women’s boxing in Botswana and a former secretary-general of Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA). She’s the brains behind the introduction of women’s boxing in the landlocked southern African country and at one time served in IBA (then under the acronym of AIBA) women’s committee.

With the future of AFBC looking brighter under the visionary leadership of Ethiopian billionaire, Eyassu Berhanu, the two women heavyweights in Africa’s boxing management can’t wait to implement their bright ideas to make the presence of African women boxers felt and recognised worldwide.
