Richard ‘the terminator ‘oblitey Commey is set to pit his gloves against Mexican born American from South California, Alejandro Alex ‘El Charro’ Luna (22-0,15 KOs) at the Alamodome, in San Antonio come Saturday February 10.

This bout happens to be the final eliminator hence the winner emerges as the mandatory title challenger for the world title held by Jamaican-American Robert Easter Junior, conspicuously the very person that defeated Richard Commey in a very close and controversial bout.

ALEJANDRO LUNA

Alejandro Luna’s last fight was a win against Andrey Klimov. Luna is an orthodox boxer with a hundred percentage winning rate and 60% percentage knockout ratio.

From a family of cowboys hence the name ‘El Charro’ which translates literally as ‘the cowboy or Mexican Cowboy’. Alejandro Luna has indeed worked his way though the ranks.

He is credited to have convincingly beaten an opponent five pounds heavier at 140 when he weighed in at 135 against Irishman Stephen Armond.

His fight against former dwindling champion Cristobel Cruz was his best by far.

Richard Commey (22-2, 15 KOs)

The Jamestown native from Accra-Ghana is not called ‘terminator’ for nothing- virtually blasting away all challengers that came his way until his polemic double header against Robert Easter Junior and Denis Shafikov in 2016, which he controversially lost on the bounce.

Richard Commey is a hard puncher who adopts quickly in the ring to the opponents style. He can box and brawl when he needs to adopt. He is a very calculated boxer who has the penchant for knockouts

ANALYSIS

The fight was originally supposed to have taken place by January 30 but a consensus by both camps meant extension to February 10- meaning both camps will have ample time to prepare.

The unbeaten southern Californian native Alejandro Luna is yet to fight a credible boxer. Unlike Richard Commey.

Luna has fought boxers like Stephen Ormond, Cristobel Cruz, Nelson and so on but these are not feared names in the division.

This fight is going to be Luna’s first ever twelve rounds bout, something that his compatriot Commey is so used to.

Alejandra though undefeated has a lot of flaws and his most credible fight by far was against Andrey Klimov in April, 2017 who is rated in the pound for pound category with likes of Terence Crawford and Robert Easter; Even with that he struggled a bit and at times looks more of a stamina suspect. His punches are more like slaps. He likes to brawl more than box.

Luna’s career best win was against gatekeeper Alan Herrera in January last year, forcing him into an eight round retirement.

Granted, Luna is very much an inside fighter with a romantic penchant for hooks to the body. But that is all there is to him. His KO’s came mostly by way of thudding punch accumulation.

The Ghanaian is ranked by the IBF as the No.4 on the table of best fighters with Alejandra Luna at number 10, Richard Commey comes into this bout with a lot of experience and a proven track record. For Commey this is the penultimate fight to finally redeem his image and wrestle the world title from Robert Easter junior.

His only flaw is the allowance of too much facial ventilation- an attitude his astute and most respected coach Carl Lawrence Lokko has been correcting from time to time and we saw that evident in his last bout.

Richard Commey is a proven champion and conqueror by every sense of the word. He can jab, hook, punch and has a lot of tricks.

Like former Ghana great Ike Quartey, Richard can absorb every body hook; and that is Luna’s only weapon.

The Jamestown native Commey is a hard puncher and with very good reflexes. The American better avoid his erratic counter punching style in this particular fight or else a straight knockout awaits him.

In conclusion

Unless we are oblivious to some political play somewhere, this fight is certainly a miss-match. Richard Commey ticks all the boxes to win this fight convincingly.

And make no mistake IBF; Richard Commey is arguably, the only credible boxer, without a shred of doubt, the legitimate challenger to old foe Robert Easter Junior.

Revenge is coming and its better-served cold.

Boxingghana.com is sure of a victory for Richard ‘terminator’ Oblitey Commey.
