Paul Dogboe To Quit Boxing Training

Father and trainer of Isaac Dogboe, Paul Dogboe, has announced his retirement from the sport after his son lost consecutively to Mexico’s Emanuel Navarrete in their WBO super bantamweight championship at the Convention Centre in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday.

Paul confirmed to the Graphic Sports that he was ready to move on from being a boxing coach having being unsuccessful with Dogboe in their bid to reclaim the title from Navarrete.

Dogboe (20-2, 14 KOs) lost again to Navarrete (27-1, 23 KOs) via a 12th round stoppage when his father threw in the towel to avoid further punishment from the Mexican.

Navarrete had dominated the entire bout with another unanimous decision victory looming only for Paul to halt the continuation of the bout following a knockdown by the Mexican in the early minutes of the final round.

“I am done with this job after failing to beat Navarrete with all the hard work we put in to ensure we come out victorious.

“It is time for me to move on from the sport as a trainer because I have done my bit and had enough,” Paul told the Graphic Sports in an interview.

Dogboe failed to live up to the billing after he was outclassed by a taller opponent in Navarrete who utilised his height and reach to earn a deserving knockout win over the Ghanaian.
