NYAWADE FAILS TO TAME THE “RED TIGER”GEORGE ASHIE: KNOCKED OUT IN ROUND ONE

George ‘the Red Tiger’ Ashie may have 5 career defeats but never let the records deceive you because he is still a force to reckon with.

Under the Dons Boxing Promotions clash of titans which ended on 26 December 2018, the Ghanaian dispatched his Kenyan opponent Michael Edward Nyawade (17-5-2,10 KOs) in the very first round of their encounter at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra- Ghana.

The event which was bankrolled by Michael Nii Yarboi Annan but leveraged on Box Office Promotions under Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye had some interesting match-ups and one of them was George Ashie’s fight which ended quickly via a TKO.

The self styled “Shaka Michael” was no match for the Ghanaian who was at his best with his powerful combos and straight hooks.

George Ashie has so far recorded 34 career bouts in a 184 rounds of boxing with KOs percentage of 64.

The devil the say is in the details…Almost all his defeats are seemingly controversial. His first defeat was during his professional debut in November 2003 against Fuseini Ahmed over six rounds but got defeated on points.

His second defeat came against Scottish Martin Watson “The Hurricane” in April 2006 also on points over six rounds.

He attempted the vacant Commonwealth (British Empire) Super Featherweight Title in that same year but again got defeated via a Unanimous decision over twelfth rounds.

After emerging victorious against Bilal Mohammad for the vacant African Boxing Union Lightweight and Commonwealth Lightweight Titles in 2012, Ashie decided to fight Emmanuel Tagoe for the vacant World Boxing Association International Lightweight Title but was controversially defeated by a majority decision.

The defeat took a toll on him because of the local bragging rights at stake then. But his recent defeat to Stephen Ormond (26-5,13 KOs) on points was controversially unfortunate as well.

Ashie proved in last battle that he has a lot to offer.

“I hope 2019 exceeds all our expectations. I also want to thank all Tigerfans for giving me a year i will never forget. 2019 is a year of victory.” Ashie stated in his new year message.

What is clear, is the fact that for a boxer who has suffered many misfortunes, 2019 must surely be his best year. And indeed career defining one.
