NINE AFRICAN BOXERS IN TODAY’S PRE-QUARTERS
▫️ Zambia and Uganda have one bullet left

The bumpy Road to Paris for African boxers enters a tricky path on Friday (May 31) with nine of them in the pre-quarters in Bangkok.

The adrenalin is running fast, and nearer the time some of them can be excused for regular visits to the washroom. It happens as hearts are pounding with each one of them anxious to move to the quarter-finals.

The nine African boxers in action are Cape Verde’s Africa welterweight champion Ivanusa Moreira, DR Congo’s Brigitte Mbabi, Zambia’s Margret Tembo, Nigeria’s Zainab Adeshina, Liberia’s Grace Fanhbulleh, Cape Verde’s David Pina (pictured left in action in Bangkok), Sedja Sanogo of Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana’s flyweight Theo Allotey and Uganda’s heavyweight Rergan Simbwa.

Moreira is lined up against Canada’s Sara Kali, Mbabi meets Japan’s Mai Kito, flyweight Tembo is up against Guatemala’s Aylin Jamez, Nigeria’s Zainab and Liberia’s Fanhbuller will be involved in an all-African flyweight encounter, Cape Verde’s Pina battles Ukraine’s Dmytro Domotayev, Cote D’Ivoire’s Sanogo has a date with Ireland’s Grainne Walsh, Ghana’s main hope Allotey squares it out with China’s Liu Chuang and Uganda’s Simbwa takes on Jamar Talleh of the USA.
