Mr. Okyere Baffour Agyei, a physiotherapist with the Bukom Trust Emporium as part of their contribution to the Black Bombers’ preparation towards the Tokyo Olympic games offered his services to the Bombers for free during their training sessions at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
His time with the team was very instrumental as he used the opportunity to coach the team about the basic remedies for getting back in shape among others.
With the Black Bombers training in Japan and away from Mr. Okyere Baffour Agyei, it was assumed his time with the team had elapsed but an exclusive interview we had with him showed he has been following their progress since day one.
In the exclusive interview, Mr. Okyere Baffour Agyei said, “I know the Black Bombers can train all day after working with them while they were in Ghana, but after their daily routine, rest should be the next important activity knowing that good rest will help relax their muscles and mind to recover quickly and refresh them for the next day’s activities.”
This was a free consultation coming from a specialist and as much as it is directed at the Black Bombers while on their journey for greatness, it is equally important for all other athletes as well as our cherished readers too.
My Agyei continued, “I am not sure about the weather in Japan now, but if the weather is hot then it is best they train early hours or late hours, on the other hand, if it is cold, the midday training may be extra beneficial.”
“I know the Olympics always brings keen competitors and this year is no different, I have worked with the three boxers and I know what they are capable of. I am not saying this for them to become reluctant, but truth be told all three boxers stand a good chance of Gold irrespective of the opponent they may meet. They have been determined and focused from day one and they have very good coaches working on them.”
In his last remarks, he said he would leave the Black Bombers with a paraphrase from the Legendary Professor of Boxing, First African to be inducted to the Boxing Hall Of Fame, Prof. Azumah ‘Zoom Zoom’ Nelson which reads, “they should enter the ring with their own referee, a knockout punch.”
